Cynthia Wheelock brings over 30 years of experience to Barba + Wheelock. Originally from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, she graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with degrees in both fine arts and architecture. She joined Barba Architecture & Preservation in 1996 after moving from Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was a Partner with the nationally known architecture and preservation firm Architects Four, Inc. (now The Smith Group). Cynthia is known for her leadership skills – developing and leading successful design teams.
Cynthia’s broad architectural experience has included the design and construction of many new buildings as well as additions to historic buildings. Her passion is designing new building with historic style accuracy, using modern materials with innovative technology to bring light and sun into living spaces. Contextual design with appropriate positioning and proportioning of buildings on the land is a paramount focus. Focusing on energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials is a given in all of projects.
