Vinalhaven Public Library

Vinalhaven Island, Maine

Constructed in 1906, this historic Prairie style granite library sits on a small corner lot across from the town common.

Island residents wanted the library to stay in town at its present location. We explored several conceptual options for expansion including adding an addition off the rear of the building or the possibility of adding a floor to the existing structure.

The possibility of adding a floor was discouraged, as it would have changed the character of this historic library. The library decided upon a 3,400 sf addition off the rear.

We constructed two models for the Library to use in their fundraising efforts.

Special Features:
Carnegie Library with exterior walls built of local granite paving blocks.
